The Projects & Programs Committee of the Liberian Association of Virginia is a Standing Committee responsible for strategic planning, policy, and programs of LAVA, in accordance with the Constitution, goals, purpose, and mission of the Association.
During the year in review, with the cooperation of the Executive and membership of LAVA, the Committee implemented the following events successfully: Celebrate Liberia 2010, Campaign. This Campaign focused on introducing and identifying Liberians living in the Commonwealth. Its focus was also on recognizing Liberians - past and present - in the Diaspora, Friends of Liberia, and well-wishers, climaxing in November, with a service honoring Liberia’s First President, Joseph Jenkins Roberts. This specific event in November brought also, with the help of the Richmond Forum that was held on the campus of Virginia Union University in Richmond, VA. This colorful and inspiring occasion was graced with the presence of Liberia’s President, HE Ellen Johnson Sirleaf. President Sirleaf also received LAVA’s inaugural HERO AWARD during the occasion.
These are potential events scheduled by the Committee for the ensuing period of operation: July 2011, Independence Day Sports Tournament - the trophy to be named after Mr. Bates. In December, a schedule for an Award Dinner, where persons will be recognized, who have contributed to the Community in some shape or form.
